Farming came with the Frontier Update: plant berries and wheat, tend them with a hoe, and turn the harvest into dishes that give you a buff. Exact grow times, recipes and food values below.
How farming works
- Make seeds by hand (C): Berry Seeds from berries, Wheat Seeds from fiber.
- Build a matching plot on open, dry ground from Build (B). A Berry Plot and a Wheat Plot each cost 2× Plank + 2× Fiber.
- Plant with F at the plot. Berries grow in 10 minutes and wheat in 15, even while you are offline.
- Tend or fertilize. With a hoe equipped, press F on a growing crop to tend it for 50% more produce. Or fertilize with compost for double produce, ready sooner.
- Harvest with F when ripe. You get the produce plus replacement seeds. A ripe crop waits until you have room for the whole harvest.
| Makes | Ingredients | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2× Berry Seed | 1× Berries | |
| 2× Wheat Seed | 4× Fiber | |
| 3× Compost | 3× Fiber + 1× Lake Fish | |
| 3× Compost | 3× Fiber + 1× Raw Meat |
- A hoe also adds produce at harvest; better metal and finer forging add more. Hoes come in every metal (forge the head, then assemble at a workbench): Bronze Hoe, Copper Hoe, Iron Hoe, Star Iron Hoe, Steel Hoe.
- Hunters and anglers can make compost from their catch and trade it to farmers.
- Town members with building permission can work your plots too.
- Removing a plot destroys its crop, so harvest first.
Cooking at the campfire
Build a Campfire (4× Stone Chunk + 3× Wood Log), press F and load ingredients and fuel. Pies, tarts and bread need farmed wheat. Fullness rises right away; the recovery boost builds over 30 seconds. Prepared dishes give one effect while they digest, and your newest dish is the one that counts.
