Asciilands Map, Regions & Materials
Updated
⟳ Synced from the official game files at (build c7ba7029d359)
The Asciilands world is one connected map split into regions, and each kind of land has its own materials. Use this table to know where to go for what.
Which region has which material
| Region type | Material | What it's for |
|---|---|---|
| Highlands | Copper seams, iron ore | Copper needs a stone pickaxe; iron needs bronze or better. Highland streams also carry more tin for panning. |
| Limestone Karst | Tin ore | Karst streams are also good for panning tin. |
| Cypress Swamp | Bog iron | Smelts into iron ingots like iron ore (2 bog iron + 1 charcoal). |
| Volcanic Wastes | Obsidian, emberstone | Emberstone works as smelter fuel. |
| Snowy Alpine | Frost crystals | A stonecutter turns frost crystals into quartz. |
| Tropical Coast | Pearls | Pearls make a Wayfinder Lens. |
| Plains | Quartz | Quartz is the base of the Wayfinder Lens. |
| Forest | Glowcaps | The mushrooms open from 18:00 to 06:00 game time; they give a Mend inscription. |
| Desert | Gypsum | A stonecutter turns gypsum into cut stone. |
| Savanna | Resin | Burns into charcoal at a campfire. |
| Bamboo Forest | Bamboo | A workbench splits bamboo into sticks. |
- A deposit holds a few units and slowly refills. Some regions have none of a material, so explore or trade for it.
- Finding a new material reveals its recipes and adds a Journal discovery.
- Wood, stone and fiber are the basics you can gather by hand; trees can drop apples and fiber plants berries.
Maps and travel
- Press M for the local map; choose World for the atlas. Drag to pan and scroll to zoom.
- Peach diamonds on the map mark wildlife.
- To travel, walk to the edge of a region. A hint near the edge names the next region.
- Meeting friends? Their region names are listed in Social (N).
- When you first join you choose to start together (near other settlers; busy start regions spread new arrivals into nearby woodland and plains) or farther away (a remote patch of forest or plains, more often coastal).
The Wayfinder Lens
Carry a Wayfinder Lens and the map marks the five nearest hidden finds in gold. Make it at a workbench: 2× Quartz + 1× Silver Ingot + 1× Amber or 2× Pearl + 1× Quartz. The recipe appears once you have found quartz.
Meteorites and Star Iron
Meteorites fall in the wilderness, days apart. Watch for the streak across the sky. A glowing crater holds 3 Star Iron and is gone once mined out. Star Iron is the hardest metal and needs a steel pickaxe to mine. Smelt it (1 Star Iron + 1 charcoal = 2 steel ingots) or forge Star Iron heads. See smithing.
Servers
There are two servers at the time of writing: Europe and North America. When we checked on Oct 22, 2026, the login screen showed a cap of 110 players per server, and Europe was full with a short queue.
