Asciilands Fishing & Tin Panning

Updated

⟳ Synced from the official game files at (build c7ba7029d359)

Two water-side skills: fishing for food and compost, and panning for the tin you need to make bronze.

How to fish

  1. Make a Fishing Rod at a workbench: 3× Stick + 2× Rope + 2× Fiber. A new rod lasts 120 uses.
  2. Equip it and stand near water, facing open water. You can also fish from a raised wooden or stone floor built out over the water.
  3. Hold R to choose how far to cast, then release. Stay still and watch the float.
  4. When BITE appears, press R to reel in. Walking away breaks the line.
  5. Cook your catch at a campfire (F).

Catches we can confirm in the item data: Lake Fish and Brook Trout ("a freshwater fish from shallow streams"). Herons, which you can tame with lake fish, are covered in companions.

How to pan for tin

  1. Make a Panning Tray at a workbench: 2× Plank. Select it while standing beside water.
  2. Hold F to wash and release while the marker is in the green band. A good release washes gravel away and keeps the tin.
  3. Each gentle wash speeds up the next one and narrows the green band. Two good washes earn extra tin; three earn the most. You can hold F early to queue the next wash.
  4. Watch for "Tin retained", repeat until the pan fills, and after three gentle washes hold F to finish. Just holding the whole time still gives a little tin.
  5. Walking away cancels the pan. Smelt the tin grains into ingots.

Where to pan: Highland and karst streams carry more tin. Limestone Karst also has tin ore you can mine directly.

Bronze is the step that unlocks iron: a bronze pickaxe mines iron ore and bog iron. See the smithing guide for the whole chain.
