Asciilands Towns: Town Hall, Plots & Upkeep
Updated
⟳ Synced from the official game files at (build c7ba7029d359)
Towns are how Asciilands players claim land together. A town protects its land from player combat, keeps buildings from decaying and shares a gold treasury, but it has to pay upkeep every day.
How to found a town
- Connect Discord. Guests cannot found or join towns.
- Discover iron ingots. The Town Hall only unlocks once you have found them (see smithing).
- Build a Town Hall from Build → Settlement. It costs 40× Plank + 24× Cut Stone + 8× Rope + 2× Iron Ingot.
- Mind the spacing. A region holds up to three towns. Halls must be at least 200 m apart, with two empty plots between a new hall and another town.
- Grow it. Your town starts with one 50 × 50 m plot. Members contribute gold; founders and officers spend it to claim neighbouring plots. Check the next plot cost in Town (T) first.
Upkeep and the treasury
Upkeep is 1 gold per plot per day, taken from the town treasury.
If the treasury runs dry, the town has seven days to pay. After that it lapses and its land is released.
Anyone in the town can contribute gold in the Town menu. Town upkeep arrived with the Frontier Update.
Plots
- Town land is made of 50 × 50 m plots. Press G to see plot edges: green plots are for sale, purple ones are yours.
- Walk onto a plot to see its name. On a plot that is for sale, press F to buy it; the gold goes to the treasury.
- You can always build on your own plot, even if your town role can't build elsewhere. Only you and the founder build there.
- Founders and officers sell plots under Town → Plots: pick it on the map, choose who may buy and set a price.
- The founder can take any plot for free and put any plot back up for sale, even an owned one.
- Giving up a plot, or having it taken back, gives no refund. Plots sold to members return when that member leaves the town.
Members, roles and permissions
- Founders and officers invite players (nearby, or by a town invitation link for someone in another region) and can post a shared town plan.
- Only the founder appoints officers. A founder can offer leadership to a resident or officer; if they accept, the old founder becomes an officer.
- New members who join by link start as residents.
- Who can build follows the town policy for each role (officers, residents, visitors). Doors admit their owner and members with building permission; chests and stations stay public to anyone in reach.
- If you leave a town, your buildings stay yours.
What town land gives you
- No player combat. Players can fight outside towns; claimed town land protects them.
- No wilderness decay. Buildings outside towns start decaying after a day without maintenance.
- Tougher buildings. Town buildings are much harder to break, and Town Halls are indestructible.
Trading in town
A Market Stall (10× Plank + 3× Cloth + 3× Rope) lets you trade with the frontier merchant and other players. Each stall has its own offers: its builder and their town can sell there, and anyone can buy. You set the quantity and gold per item; buyers can take part of a stack, and you get the gold when it sells, even while offline. Open a nearby stall with F or K.
Friends and parties
Open Social (N) to add friends with a friend code and create a party of up to eight players. Invitation links last 24 hours. Blocking someone stops their invitations but keeps you both in any shared party or town.
